1. What materials will I need for my Site?

Here is a list of what you will need for your site:
  • ISRR Forms - It is recommended that sites obtain at least 50 forms. Call or write to ISRR and give them your name and contact info as a registered RegDay volunteer to obtain free ISRR forms for your site. Extra forms can always be returned to ISRR or given to local support groups to distribute through the year. Sites should obtain enough forms to meet 2.5x their goal (if their goal is 20, the site should have 50 forms on hand).

  • ISRR forms (pdf) can also be downloaded from the official ISRR website.

  • Pens - lots of them.

  • Clip boards - even if you have tables for people to sit at.

  • #10 Envelopes - for registrants who want/need them. Have pre-printed labels with ISRR's address available (don't put them on beforehand or you may end up wasting envelopes).
NOTE!!! RegDay Volunteers may NOT collect completed ISRR forms! Forms must be mailed by the registrants themselves. This stipulation has been explicitly requested by Tony Vilardi who runs the ISRR.

Required Information:
Optional Information:
Provided by site volunteers:
  • List of local search/support/activism resources
  • Information on adoption and search-related issues
2. What do I and my volunteers need to provide?

Everything but the ISRR forms. Photocopying. Try to get as much stuff donated or raised up between your volunteers as possible. Many people have extra pens, clipboards, envelopes, and so fort that they can loan for the day. Phone calls and faxing associated with press and media outreach. The money investment will primarily be in the copying of handouts and flyers. If someone in your group can legally and with integrity get the copies made for free at their place of business, then be sure to let them do that. See part V of this series on covering costs for more information.

ISRR Forms - You can obtain your ISRR forms from the ISRR directly. They are free - just say that you are a RegDay Site Coordinator. Please send $3.00 (optional) to cover postage and handling, along with (required) your name, address and state that you are setting up a Registration Day site to:

3. What about materials promoting other groups/agendas?

As has been stated, the primary purpose for RegDay is to educate people about the ISRR and to promote registration with the ISRR. But once you get into the complex issue of adoption, people will naturally want more information about other issues. And all of us volunteers have knowledge and expertise about one or more of the issues surrounding adoption.

It is okay to have information available on your table about other issues. It is NOT okay to let your site become primarily involved in pushing another issue. As a general rule of thumb, each of the site volunteers who is involved in a particular support group or activity involving adoption should provide their own handouts for that group or activity on the table, and a clipboard with a sign-up sheet for people who want more information. Volunteers should not spend time discussing other issues of adoption at length, nor should they use this time to enter into debates with one another or with guests about the sublte nuances of every point of view on an issue. Remember, the primary reason we are here is to promote the ISRR. Don't let anything distract from that.

Bottom line: If you are a proponent of Foobar, and you want other people to know about Foobar, then bring your own handouts about your Foobar group and a sign up sheet for people who want you to contact them later. Get names, get numbers, tell them you'll call them, then move on to helping people find out about and register with the ISRR.
